I recently had a chance to try out a pitbike boot from a newcomer to the US market. These boots were made by a company called Novogar in Italy and distributed here by Edge Racing Products. Gar also offers a full size motocross boot as well as a boot designed for Supermoto and a line of hiking boots.
The boots that I received were black; they also come in white for the fashion conscious pit biker and tan. They definitely have a sleek European look to them and are very comfortable. I tried them on and wore them around the house to break them in a little. That was really unnecessary as the soft supple leather that the boots are made from requires no break in at all. The Gar boots are a little taller than some of the previous pitbike boots that I have seen and to me that is a good thing.
The real test was held at Street, Track and Trail’s challenging Supercross style pitbike race. It is part of the TV Land Summer Pitbike Series and was pretty well attended. I buckled them up and headed out for practice. Normally I am a little anxious when trying new boots for the first time. The Gars soon left my mind as I really never noticed them, as I said, they are pretty comfortable. On thing that I did like was that the top of the boots have a strap that is fastened with Velcro. It seals rather well at the top and keeps dirt and small rock from entering the boots. That is a common problem with most low cut boots. The soles gripped well on the pegs and look like they will hold up under the harsh conditions that pitbikers often dish out.
The boots got pretty dirty during the race. I cleaned them the next day with a little ProClean1000 and some water and they looked good as new. The Gar pitbike boots retail for $209.00. While that is a little more than what most of the other pitbike boots on the market are going for, these boots are high quality Italian made. I would expect them to last a long time.
